Career and Technical Education
Programmatic Advisory Committees

Definition of Advisory Committees

Advisory committees are comprised of employers and community representatives who advise educators on the design, development, operation, evaluation and revision of their Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Advisory Committee members are asked to commit to a minimum term of one year. Advisory committees meet a minimum of two times a year.

Purpose of Advisory Committees

The primary purpose of the programmatic advisory committee is to help VISD CTE ensure that the program is relevant to the community, addresses current industry standards, meets workforce needs, has appropriate resources to support high quality student outcomes, and represents “all aspects of the industry.”

Advisory committees are advisory in nature, and do not establish policy, or supersede the legal responsibility and authority vested in the VISD Board of Trustees. Programmatic advisory committee recommendations are reviewed by administration and, if appropriate, by the Board of Trustees for feasibility of implementation.
