Elementary Student Capping

CAPPED STUDENTS

An elementary campus’ grade-level is considered “capped” (i.e. full) when the enrollment at the school in a particular grade level nears or exceeds the District- and state-mandated student-to teacher ratio. When enrollment reaches capacity, future students enrolling in that grade level are “capped” to and enrolled at a District designated relief campus. Capping is typically the result of online student registration not being completed annually in a timely manner. Capping to a designated relief campus is not considered an FDB-R transfer; therefore, transportation, if eligible, will be provided by the VISD according to policies & regulations (2-mile requirement or hazardous crossing). If the student is NOT transportation eligible, then the parent must provide transportation to and from relief campus. Capping is valid only during all or part of the current school year (depending on when/if space opens up at the home campus). Priority for return to the home campus is given to capped students with the earliest online enrollment submission date. Capped students are expected to return to their home campus within 5 school days when space becomes available OR if space becomes available at the home campus after the last Friday in September, parents may request a Continued Enrollment Transfer on from the Office of Student Services to remain at the relief campus through the end of the current school year.

CAPPED SIBLINGS

If a student has been assigned to a relief campus because the student’s home campus is nearing or exceeding grade level enrollment guidelines, other siblings in the same household will be allowed to go to the assigned relief campus -- if space is available. All requirements that apply to a capped student will also apply to the sibling(s) of the capped student.
