Feeding Futures

The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) has a long-standing commitment to ensuring that every child in our community has access to nutritious meals, even when school is not in session. Our Summer Feeding Program, a vital initiative, continues to thrive and expand, reaching more children and families each year.

This summer, VISD offered free meals to all children aged 18 and under at both school sites and community partner sites. From May 28 through June 23, VISD successfully served a total of 26,095 meals.

At our school sites, breakfast and lunch were available Monday through Thursday, while community partner sites extended lunch service through Friday, providing consistent access to meals throughout the week.

In addition to our traditional summer feeding efforts, VISD launched the Rural Summer Feeding Program for the second year. This program specifically targeted rural areas, offering meal distribution at Aloe Elementary on Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m., starting on May 30, 2024. From May 30 through June 23, VISD distributed an impressive 35,940 meals through this initiative.

The Rural Summer Feeding Program will continue until July 26, 2024, allowing families to participate and receive meals for children 18 and under. Parents or guardians can sign up for the Rural Summer Feeding Program onsite or by calling the Child Nutrition Office at 361.788.9235 (VISD is closed today). The students do not have to attend a VISD school; however, proof of the student's age is required, or the child must be present during pick-up. Valid forms of proof include a student ID, birth certificate, or current report card.

We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to provide meals to our community throughout the summer. Seeing families take advantage of this program underscores its importance and the positive impact it has on our children.

A special thank you goes out to our Child Nutrition Department for their unwavering dedication and hard work. Their commitment to each child and family in our community is the cornerstone of the success of our Summer Feeding Program.
