Victoria ISD Shares Important Message Important Message Regarding Student Attendance

In our ongoing effort to ensure the safety, security, and uninterrupted instruction of all students and staff, we wish to inform you that effective Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, if a campus is "open for education" but a parent or guardian chooses to keep their child or children home due to threats to the school, these absences will be counted as unexcused. Following FEA(local), this established rule helps maintain the integrity of our educational environment.

VISD has implemented a range of safety and security measures designed to protect our school community while maintaining a conducive learning environment. These efforts are continually evaluated and enhanced to respond effectively to any potential threats.

A Few Safety Measures at VISD:

  • Each campus within VISD is equipped with armed security personnel and/or School Resource Officers to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

  • All entrance vestibules have received security upgrades.

  • District-wide camera surveillance enhancements.

  • The District has adopted and completed all of the Texas Education Agency recommendations.

Only absences that meet compulsory law and FEA(local) in the Student Handbook may be considered excused. For more student attendance requirements, visit https://www.visd.net/page/student-attendance

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to prioritize creating the safest possible learning environment for our students and a secure work environment for our staff. Your partnership is invaluable in maintaining a safe and productive educational atmosphere for all.
