Joint PSA outlines the real consequences of hoax threats
Victoria ISD, in partnership with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) and the Victoria Police Department (VPD), has released a new public service announcement (PSA) addressing the surge of false threats made by students on and about school campuses.
In recent weeks, multiple false threats have occurred on VISD campuses and diverted law enforcement resources. Students have been arrested and referred to the Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) as a result. The PSA was produced to make clear that threats, whether made in person, online, or shared as “jokes,” carry serious legal and school consequences.
“Creating PSAs like this in partnership with Sheriff Marr and the Victoria Police Department is important because it demonstrates our shared commitment to keeping students and staff safe. Working together allows us to send a strong, clear message about safety and the serious consequences of making threats while also building trust and awareness in our community,” said Ashley Alvarez, Executive Director of Communications for Victoria ISD.
What families and students should know
Every threat is taken seriously and investigated by VISD and law enforcement.
Making a threat, even if intended as a joke, or sharing a threatening post can lead to an arrest, referral to JJC, and school discipline under the Student Code of Conduct.
Hoaxes disrupt instruction, create fear, and tie up emergency resources needed elsewhere.
How you can help
Do not repost or share unverified threats or rumors on social media.
Report immediately to campus administrators or a School Resource Officer. For imminent danger, call 911.
Provide screenshots, names, and details to support a timely investigation.

VISD will continue to work closely with campus School Resource Officers, VCSO, and VPD to investigate all reports and will share verified updates as appropriate.
Our shared goal is a safe, calm learning environment for every student and staff member.
