School Matters

As the summer temperatures rise, the dedication of our Maintenance and Technology departments remains unwavering as they diligently prepare our campuses and district buildings to welcome students back to school in August.

Victoria ISD covers over 606 square miles, including 759 acres of land housed by one early learning campus, 14 elementary campuses, seven secondary campuses, two alternative school campuses, district facilities, athletic fields, and ag farms. The Maintenance and Technology departments are dedicated to ensuring our facilities are primed and ready to provide a safe, conducive, and technologically advanced learning environment for the upcoming school year.

VISD Maintenance Department

Despite the sweltering summer heat, our maintenance department is working hard to ensure that the work and learning environments are safe and comfortable for our students and staff.

Some of the projects and tasks the maintenance team have taken on to achieve this are:

  • Replacing rooftop units at multiple campuses and facilities

  • Setting up ‘Notice: No Entry’ signs for all district playgrounds, tracks, tennis courts, and campus buildings to better communicate the allowances for use by community members

  • Repairing AC controls at various campuses

  • Boiler repairs at several campuses

In addition to these tasks (and many more), each campus will undergo an extensive cleaning process that includes removing all of the furniture from the rooms, allowing them to receive thorough dusting. Windows and blinds will also be cleaned. The cabinets in every room will be meticulously cleaned, and gum will be removed from desks and cafeteria tables. Whiteboards will also be cleaned and reconditioned. All campus flooring will be stripped and waxed.

These efforts, alongside numerous other tasks, will ensure that classrooms and district rooms are not only clean but also prepared to inspire and facilitate learning.

VISD Technology Department

Our technology department is hard at work addressing the technological needs of the school district before the students return. They are cleaning up equipment used by students on campuses, preparing campuses for the school year by reimaging laptops, clearing documents and data, and repairing damage.

This summer, the technology department will also prepare 4,000 new Chromebooks for the rollout of the one-to-one technology initiative for the high school campuses. In a typical one-to-one technology program, an individual school or school district provides each student with a school or district-owned mobile computing device. The student keeps this device with them, using it both at home and school.

Another project Technology is working on is installing more ViewSonic boards at the high school campuses. ViewSonic whiteboards are interactive boards that provide an easy-to-use experience for educators, enhancing the learning environment.

The overarching goal of these projects is to create a seamless and efficient technological environment to support the educational needs of our students and staff.

The collective efforts of our Maintenance and Technology departments reflect our commitment to providing a safe, clean, and technologically advanced learning environment for the upcoming school year. We are grateful for their hard work and dedication in preparing our campuses to welcome our students and staff for another great year.
