Victoria ISD Career & Technology Institute Students Shine in Work-Based Learning Programs

The Victoria ISD celebrates the remarkable achievements of its students and instructors involved in the Career and Technical Institute (CTI) work-based learning programs. In a recent display of skills and community service, CTI welding students, under the guidance of their instructors, expertly repaired a damaged wheelchair lift on a specially adapted school bus. This critical repair ensured the continued safe transportation of students and prevented a costly replacement.

The transportation department praised the students' technical ability and dedication, which will allow the bus to remain in service until its scheduled retirement in a few months. "Our students have not only ensured the safety and accessibility of our transportation services but have also demonstrated their commitment to supporting the community," said Transportation Director Shawn Fennell. “Their efforts exemplify the practical and impactful learning experiences the Work-Based Learning and Practicum courses aim to provide.”

This year, Victoria ISD has 75 students enrolled in the Practicum course engaging in real-world applications of the skills developed over their educational journey. These students are completing their chosen pathways in diverse fields, collaborating with community partners such as the City of Victoria Engineering Department, VISD Technology Department, Victoria County Juvenile Justice Center, Tejas, and Victoria Veterinary Clinic, among others.

Additionally, the district's Career Prep program has enrolled 94 students this school year. These students are actively preparing for their future careers through hands-on projects, internships, and skill-building activities, gaining valuable insights into various industries. They are not only exploring career options but also developing essential workplace skills and making connections that will foster their professional growth.

"We are incredibly proud of our students and the robust partnership we have with local businesses and community organizations. These collaborations enrich our student's educational experiences and prepare them for successful careers," said CTI Principal Andrea Pope

Victoria ISD continues to commit to providing innovative educational experiences that prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the workforce. The district looks forward to the continued success of its students in the Work-Based Learning and Career Prep programs, and to their future contributions to the community and beyond.
