leadership academy

The Victoria Independent School District will kick off its second annual 2021-22 VISD Leadership Academy cohort on February 7, with over 40 VISD educators and staff members participating.

VISD’s Leadership Academy is a 3 to 4-month long cohort designed to build the leadership capacity of professional employees across the district.

VISD’s Leadership Academy supports the District Strategic Plan Talent Development findings and directions:

  • We believe exceptional staff are what makes students’ success possible.

  • We believe we will become an everyone culture where everyone feels they belong.

VISD educators and staff members are encouraged and supported in Finding Their “And” while also discovering their genius.

“The VISD Leadership Academy will provide a foundational experience for leaders in VISD to hone and practice their leadership skills. Participants will have an opportunity for personal reflection and skill-building and will create a personal leadership development plan for themselves based on their strengths and weaknesses,” said Melissa Correll, Chief Innovation Officer. “Ultimately, the VISD Leadership Academy is the first stop in our quest to provide opportunities for our staff to strengthen, grow, and flex their leadership muscles.”

During the cohort, educators and staff will have the opportunity to participate in a transformational deep dive into what it means to be a leader within VISD. Participants will

  • learn about VISD’s description of leadership from the lens of their specific next-step leadership role.

  • shadow VISD leaders currently in their ideal next-step leadership role.

  • connect with current VISD leaders from all areas and departments.

  • participate in a mock interview experience to be prepared for their next-step leadership role.

This year, a new approach will be taken by integrating the work VISD has been completing with the Holdsworth Center over the past several months, with VISD’s focus of “What does it mean to be a leader in VISD?”

The Leadership Academy is open to all current VISD professional staff employees who fill out an application. An all-call for the Leadership Academy was sent out to district professional staff in the beginning of November.

Any employees who plan to enter into a leadership position in VISD will be required to participate in the Leader Academy prior to filling that role.
